My Angel Investing Criteria 


I’m interested in:

  • The right founder(s)


I would back the right founder on any idea. I’m also part of the Green Angel Syndicate for UK sustainability investing. I run a microgrants programme  (£1K grants for positive impact) and you can find out more on more interests in my blogs, podcast and newsletter.

I’m at the pre-seed or seed stage and my deal size is typically £5K to £50K (most likely on the smaller side). I give a decent amount of constructive advice as a backer and during due diligence.

When you pitch, I like to see a 1 - 2 page investment memo with a supporting slide deck.

The deck should have:

  • Your Mission - The purpose of your company

  • The Problem - What are you solving for the customer

  • The Customer - Who are they 

  • The Solution - What you have created and why now

  • Market Landscape - including competition, trends, etc. What do you do that others haver overlooked?

  • Business model - how users translate to revenue. Actuals, plans, hopes.

  • Current Status  - list key stats / plans for scaling and future customer acquisition.

  • Team - who you are, where you come from and why you have what it takes to succeed. 

  • Financials and Fundraising - Include what you have already raised and what you are planning to raise now. Any financial projections may go here as well. Any summary product roadmap on how you will use the money. Any committed investors. What % holding in the company.

  • Summary - 3-5 key takeaways (market size, key product insight, traction)

I have angel investments in:

Wholegood A sustainable fruit, vegetables and organics product wholesaler. Supplier to major grocery retailers, some direct to consumer. Packing, waste, travel etc. are all looked at sustainably. If you are in the UK, try them out! You can try them via Ocado, FarmDrop or a London delivery.

Cuckoo Simple, cost effective broadband access in the UK. No contract. Simple Switching. If you are in the UK and thinking of switching this is a simple no ties solution, in what turns out to be an incumbent market with poor customer service.
